The Ultra-Drain Guard comes in several models, most of which are secured by the weight of the storm drain grating. However, the adjustable frame model uses a steel framework to prevent it from falling into the drain basin. This steel framework can be adjusted to fit different drain sizes. The main advantage of this model is that it remains in place even when the grating is lifted, eliminating the need to secure it beforehand. Additionally, the installation is aesthetically pleasing as there is no excess material to trim or protrude above the grating, resulting in a clean and simple appearance.

When new, the Ultra-Drain Guard has a flow rate of 3469 LPM/m2. However, the unit has been designed with overflow ports. These allow the Ultra-Drain Guard a flow rate of 2914 litres per minute which will prevent any flooding or ponding during extreme rain events. Any water that goes through the overflow is essentially untreated.

The lifespan of an Ultra-Drain Guard depends on various factors, such as the amount of rainfall, type, and quantity of pollutants. To determine its effectiveness, it is recommended to inspect the unit after each significant rain event.
It can be removed, emptied out, and replaced if it is filled with sand, silt, sediment, or trash and debris. However, it cannot be reused if it is saturated with oil, fuel or other hydrocarbons due to the risk of flushing out pollutants during a major rain event. It is recommended that the unit be replaced in such cases.
Yes, replacement fabric is available in a 10-pack (CHU8932). Simply remove the fabric by pulling apart the hook and loop fasteners around the top perimeter of the Ultra-Drain Guard and replace it with a new one.
The unique feature of the adjustable frame model is, of course, the adjustable frame. This allows the unit to stay in place whenever the catch basin’s grate is lifted or removed. Our other Ultra-Drain Guard relies on the grate to pinch the fabric and hold the unit in place.
If you purchase either CHU8930 (1-pack) or CHU8931 (10-pack), you will receive everything you need, including the hardware (frame). No other parts, pieces or components will be necessary to install/use your Ultra-Drain Guard.
The Ultra-Drain Guard Economy Frame Model is very similar, with the exception of a reusable frame.
