Absorbent pillows

SpilMax® Absorbent Pillows are made of polypropylene. Each pillow can absorb up to 4L per saturation. They are typically used to catch drips under leaking equipment or machinery. They can also be stuffed into an area where liquids are flowing as a temporary measure until the flow is stopped.

ABSORBENT pillow types

Oil & Fuel Absorbents are white. They are hydrophobic and repel water. This allows for the absorption of oil and fuel without absorbing water itself. Ideal for indoor or outdoor use cleaning up spills on or around water. Choose these absorbents where hydrocarbons are the main and likely contaminant such as hydraulic hoses, fuel stores and marinas.

UniChem Absorbents are yellow and work as both a Universal absorbent and Hazchem absorbent absorb a wider range of liquids. These absorbents will pick up water, oils, fuels, diesel, coolant, general workplace chemicals and common agricultural chemicals, oxidisers, acids and caustics. Since these absorbents also pick up water, they are not recommended for oil on water spills.

The SpilMax® range of absorbents have undergone extensive testing to ensure their absorbency and performance even when under extreme industrial use. Test Method: ASTM Test Method F726-06 “Sorbent Performance of Absorbents” to test maximum oil capacity.

FAQ

Which absorbent pillow type should be used for different spill liquids?

Oil & Fuel absorbent pillows are designed for hydrocarbons, oils, and fuels where water repellency is required, including marine and outdoor spill response applications. UniChem absorbent pillows absorb a broader range of liquids, including water, diesel, coolant, workplace chemicals, acids, oxidisers, and caustics.

How much liquid can each absorbent pillow absorb?

Each absorbent pillow can absorb up to 4 litres per saturation. They are suitable for managing ongoing drips, leaks, and temporary liquid containment around industrial equipment and machinery.

Where are absorbent pillows typically used?

Absorbent pillows are commonly used under leaking machinery, hydraulic hoses, drums, valves, and industrial equipment to capture drips and leaks. They can also be packed into areas where liquids are flowing as a temporary spill control measure until the source is isolated.

Why are Oil & Fuel absorbent pillows suitable for spills on water?

Oil & Fuel absorbent pillows are hydrophobic, meaning they repel water while absorbing oils and fuels. This makes them effective for outdoor spill response, marinas, waterways, fuel storage areas, and other environments where hydrocarbons are the primary contaminant.

Are absorbent pillows made from durable industrial-grade materials?

Yes. Absorbent pillows are manufactured from polypropylene and tested for industrial spill response performance. They are designed to maintain absorbency and handling performance in demanding workplace environments.

What colour coding is used for absorbent pillow types?

Oil & Fuel absorbent pillows are white and designed for hydrocarbon spills where water repellency is required. UniChem absorbent pillows are yellow and intended for a broader range of chemical and mixed liquid spill applications.
