Spill Bunding Products

Spill bunding products, also known as bunding, are systems designed to contain spills and prevent liquids from spreading.

Spill bunding is necessary when handling liquids, such as hydrocarbons and chemicals. The type of spill containment needed depends on the site and how liquids are stored and moved. Spill containment products are also used to capture wastewater during activities like washdowns.

Bunding creates a perimeter with raised sides to stop liquids from spreading. The capacity is calculated based on the bunded area’s size and wall height.

There are different types of bunding to choose from:

Floor bunding:

A permanent solution installed in storage areas like warehouses. They can also be used in parking terminals, fueling stations, decanting areas, and wash bays.

Portable bunding:

Ideal for temporary spill control that can be moved and adapted to the site.

Spill bunds:

Can be used for temporary or permanent storage of drums, machines, or anything that might leak indoors or outdoors. They can be used for:

  • Temporary drum storage
  • Set down containers of liquids
  • Decanting station
  • Containment of plant & equipment on work sites
  • Storing hydraulic hoses when not in us
Weighted Containment Booms:

A portable bunding option is used to contain accidental spills and protect drain pits. They are typically used:

  • Where portable bunding is required to contain liquid spills before entering the stormwater drains
  • Shopping centres & high-risk areas
  • Wash down areas
  • Any area where permanent floor bunding is not suitable
Ultra-Spill Bunds:

Designed for smaller spills and can hold up to 283 litres of liquid. It has 150mm high foam sidewalls that provide support but can be driven over for easier equipment placement.

Mini Foam Wall Model:

Also called quick bunds or spill bund duck ponds, these are innovative products designed to contain small spills from vehicles, equipment, and containers.

The choice of bunding material depends on the application. Factors to consider include site conditions, traffic, types of containers, and the liquids being stored.

Standards for spill containment and bunding capacity:

  • AS 1940 – The storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids.
  • AS 4326-2008 -The storage and handling of oxidising agents
  • AS 3780-2023 The storage and handling of corrosive substances
  • AS/NZS 4452:1997 The storage and handling of toxic substances
