Collapsible bunding contains spills from drums, IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers), machinery, and vehicles. It is also useful for creating temporary wash-down areas and emergency spill response.
The bund size should be based on the volume of liquids you need to contain and the dimensions of the equipment or containers you will be using. Ensure the bund has enough capacity to handle potential spills to the prescribed standard or legislation and allows for easy access and operation.
Collapsible bunds are typically made from 900gsm PVC, 1,350gsm heavy-duty PVC or XR-5® geomembrane. These materials are chosen for their chemical resistance, durability, and flexibility.
Setting up a collapsible bund involves clearing the ground of debris, laying out a ground mat, unfolding the bund, and erecting the walls by deploying the support legs. For larger bunds, additional staff may be needed to assist with setup.
While collapsible bunds are compatible with many chemicals, it is important to check the chemical compatibility of the bund material with the substances you intend to contain. Some materials, like XR-5® geomembrane, are suitable for harsher chemicals.
After use, clean and decontaminate the bund thoroughly, ensure it is dry, and then fold it up for storage. Regular inspections and maintenance are necessary to check for any damage or wear that could compromise its effectiveness.
Collapsible bunding offers several benefits, including portability, ease of use, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with environmental regulations. It provides a quick and reliable solution for spill containment, protecting both the environment and workplace safety.
Yes, using collapsible bunds can help businesses comply with environmental regulations such as AS 1940:2017, which outlines the requirements for the storage and handling of flammable and combustible liquids.
