A spill containment wall, often part of a larger secondary containment system, is a physical barrier designed to enclose or contain hazardous materials, preventing them from escaping into the environment. The primary purpose of a containment wall is to provide temporary containment of discharged substances, such as oil or chemicals, until appropriate actions can be taken to abate the source of the discharge and remove the accumulated material.
They serve as an essential line of defence if the primary containment system fails, like a storage tank or pipe. Containment walls are used in various settings, including oil and gas facilities, chemical plants, nuclear power plants, and other industrial sites where there’s a risk of hazardous material spills.
