In Australia, industries that handle plastic pellets are increasingly expected to meet high standards for environmental protection and workplace safety. These standards aim to reduce microplastic pollution and promote responsible handling practices.
Regulatory bodies such as the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and other state authorities actively enforce these standards. Under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (NSW), corporations may face fines of up to $1 million, while individuals can be fined up to $250,000 for environmental breaches. Ongoing non-compliance may also attract additional daily penalties.
Purpose-Built Products for Pellet Containment
At Chatoyer, we offer a comprehensive range of containment products designed to help businesses prevent pellet loss, especially in high-risk areas like rail yards, manufacturing facilities, and loading zones.
- Ultra-Pellet Drain – A 150mm drain built into bunds, featuring a 17×8 mesh that allows water to pass while trapping plastic pellets. Not suitable for liquid containment and must be ordered with the bund.
- Ultra-Pellet Pan & Composite Pan – Capture pellet spills from rail hopper discharge points. The composite model offers 6 metres of coverage and can be linked for longer applications.
- Ultra-Spill Bund Mini Foam Wall – Flexible bunding solution for loading and unloading areas. When combined with the Ultra-Pellet Drain, it forms an effective pellet containment system.
- Ultra-Track Bund – Portable containment for rail operations, with a 432-litre capacity to manage spills and pellet leaks.
- Ultra-Collapsible Bund (Ultimate Model) – Heavy-duty bund for vehicle and equipment washdown or transit areas—stops plastic pellets from reaching the soil or drainage systems.
- Ultra-Drain Seal – Quickly covers stormwater drains during loading or emergency spill events, blocking plastic pellet runoff.
- Ultra-Filter Socks – Wraps around drains, gullies, and stormwater inlets to filter runoff while trapping pellets and other debris.
- Ultra-Spill Trays (Utility Model) – Positioned beneath discharge points to capture pellets and other pollutants before they spread.
- Ultra-Pipe Sock – Clamps over hoses or couplers to allow water flow while trapping plastic pellet waste.
- Ultra-Dewatering Bags (Oil & Sediment Model) – Used during railcar clean-outs to filter water and retain plastic pellet debris for proper disposal.
